In May 2023, Amnesty International reveals that the phone of Dominican investigative journalist Nuria Piera was targeted and infected three times with Pegasus between 2020 and 2021. After Mexico and El Salvador, the Dominican Republic is the third country in the Americas where Amnesty International were able to confirm the use of Pegasus against journalists and human rights defenders.
