In December 2021, Reuters reported that the phones of several US state department employees in Uganda (11 according to The New York Times) were hacked using Pegasus in 2021, the largest-known Pegasus hack of American officials. According to the Times, two Ugandan journalists and an opposition figure were also warned by Apple that their phones might have been hacked using Pegasus by a state-sponsored entity (the Ugandan government did not respond to the Times’ requests for comment).
